Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 vs Galaxy Watch 4 Classic: Which Should You Choose?

Samsung unveiled two new smartwatches under the name Galaxy Watch 4 at its Galaxy Unpacked 2021 event. One is short for Galaxy Watch 4 and the other is called Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.

If you're looking for an upgrade in the marketplace, you may not be able to choose between these two smartwatches. The good news is that they are more similar than you think. Here we'll take a look at all the differences between the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic.

1. design

without a doubt, the main differentiator is design.

The Galaxy Watch 4 looks sleeker and more modern. It looks very similar to the 2019 Galaxy Watch Active 2, as Samsung intends to replace the model with the new Galaxy Watch 4 and simplify its smartwatch lineup. The Galaxy Watch 4 is made of aluminum and has a digital bezel for the operation.

The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, on the other hand, has the same physical rotating bezel as its predecessors. It's also heavier and bulkier, but it's made of stainless steel. Samsung touts it as a premium model and true successor to the Galaxy Watch 3.

2. size differences

both models are available in two different case sizes to fit snugly into your wrist.

The Galaxy Watch 4 is available in 40mm and 44mm sizes, while the Premium Galaxy Watch 4 Classic is available in 42mm and 46mm sizes. This is an upgraded version of the old Galaxy Watch 3 in 41mm and 45mm sizes offered by Samsung.

Although the overall size is different, the screen size of the two models remains the same. The 40mm version of the Galaxy Watch 4 has the same screen size and resolution as the 42mm Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. Due to the physical rotation of the bezel, it has only a slightly larger body.

3. color options

Samsung offers four color options for the more affordable Galaxy Watch 4. Whatever size case you come with, you can use the standard black and silver versions.

if you want green, you'll need to buy the larger 44mm size, while the smaller 40mm variant has its own powder-gold option.

The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic may be the first choice, but you don't have much fun in the color department. Samsung is only available in black and silver for both 42mm and 46mm models.

4. prices

For many of you, pricing can be a huge deciding factor. If you want to keep your expenses low, the Standard Galaxy Watch 4 is a great choice for the $250 40mm Bluetooth version. If you want an LTE connection, it's an additional $50.

On the other hand, the better Galaxy Watch 4 Classic will cost $350 for the 42mm Bluetooth model and $50 for the LTE model.

Whether you use Bluetooth or the LTE version, the larger galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic cost $30 more than the smaller models.

the difference is purely decorative

The Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic contain the same hardware (including battery size) and software.

In the end, it all comes down to the look of the device. Some people may prefer the sporty and modern design of the Galaxy Watch 4, while others prefer the classic watch look. However, spinning the bezel is definitely a good bonus.

If you're upgrading, keep in mind that the Galaxy Watch 4 replaces the Galaxy Watch Active 2 and the Galaxy Watch Classic replaces the Galaxy Watch 3.
